The Banes of Snooze Mon, April 11 2005 - 11:52 AM by: Patrick |
|
I think I'm going to have to pick up a copy of this alarm clock as soon as they turn it into a commercial product. My mornings are so often plagued by the repetition of alarm-snooze-alarm-snooze that I feel it's time to make an attempt to counteract what I can't help but do in my lethargic, pseudo awake state. Realistically, the snooze feature gives me a false sense of happiness, and pushing it once just leads me on a downward spiral. When I am awakened by that terrible, persistent, maddening beep the cool, peaceful serene of my body turns harsh and jagged. At that point there is a way out, of course, and I'm too drowsy when I hit snooze to realize that I've just fallen into the alarm clock's trap. The next seven minutes consist of my meager attempts to find a bit more rest, but obviously that's not enough time for any significant quantity of it. And then, just as suddenly and horribly as the first time, the alarm strikes again. When this happens I'm still too tired to consider the ramifications of not getting up, so more often than not I reach over and take the easy way out another time. Sometimes an hour can pass this way. I have found, though, that once I'm actually on my feet the shift to consciousness isn't really all that bad, it's just the matter of finding the will to get out of bed - there's the rub. That's why I'm so keen on this Clocky invention, if my alarm clock makes me run all over the room to turn it off, by the time I find it and stop its noisy proceedings I'll already be transformed into the wide awake Patrick you all know and love.
The Killers are playing here at UCSD tomorrow night, the tickets were being given away for free to all students a couple months ago and I managed to pick one up. I have a feeling it's going to be immensely crowded, but I'm looking forward to the show nonetheless.
